Editorial Policy

GoalPublic aims to be a fast, honest place to follow football news. This page explains where our content comes from, how it is produced and what we do when we get something wrong.

Sourcing

Headlines are pulled automatically throughout the day from four established sports publishers: BBC Sport, The Guardian, Sky Sports and ESPN. Live scores, fixtures, results and league tables come from ESPN. GoalPublic does not do original reporting at this time; everything on the live site is based on those sources.

How our AI summaries are produced

For stories from BBC Sport, The Guardian and Sky Sports, GoalPublic publishes a short summary written with AI (Anthropic's Claude), working from the source article. The model is instructed to:

  • use only facts that appear in the source article, and never add scores, names, numbers or claims that aren't in it;
  • write in its own words rather than copying the source's sentences; and
  • keep any direct quote short and attributed to the person who said it.

ESPN stories, live blogs and videos are not summarized. They link straight to the original source.

Limits

AI summaries can still make mistakes: a detail can be misread, context can be lost, or the source itself may later be updated or corrected. A summary is not a replacement for the original reporting, so for the full story, and the latest version of it, follow the link to the publisher. Summary pages are currently set to noindex, so they don't appear in search results. If you spot an error, please tell us.

Attribution and linking

Every summary names the publisher it is based on and links prominently to the original article. Headlines, reporting and photos belong to their publishers. We want readers to visit the original stories, and our pages are designed to send them there.

Images

Our story pages use GoalPublic branded graphics rather than publishers' photos. Some headline thumbnails and team crests elsewhere on the site load directly from the publishers and ESPN and remain their property.

Corrections

If something on GoalPublic is wrong, message us. We respond within 48 hours. If a summary misstates its source, we will fix it or take it down. Publishers can ask for any summary of their work to be removed, and we will honor that request.

Independence

GoalPublic does not accept payment for coverage. No club, agent, sponsor or advertiser pays to have stories included, ranked or written a certain way. The site is supported by ads served by Google AdSense, and advertisers have no say over which stories appear.

The archive

GoalPublic's original 2021–22 articles, written by founder Aveek Chaudhuri, are preserved as they were first published in the GoalPublic archive. They reflect what was known at the time and are not updated.
