Chelsea

CHELSEA ARE THE 2021 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WINNERS! For the second time in their history, Chelsea became champions of Europe. The first title came thanks to Didier Drogba. And this time, it was thanks to Kai Havertz.

Chelsea entered the game as heavy underdogs. Majority of people, around 61% in fact, believed that Manchester City would easily defeat the Blues. But Kai Havertz and the rest of Thomas Tuchel’s men proved them all wrong.

Chelsea came ready to play. And they showed that starting from the very first minute. Thomas Tuchel is known for his attacking football and that’s exactly the way Chelsea played from the beginning, creating two big chances with a shot on target within the first 14 minutes of the game.

Chelsea continuously tested Manchester City’s renowned defense containing the mighty Ruben Dias and John Stones. And eventually, they broke through in the 42’ minute thanks to a brilliant through ball by Mason Mount. Chelsea’s young star found their club record transfer Kai Havertz with the through ball who calmly went around the rushing Ederson and slotted the ball into the back of the net. What a time to score his first Champions League goal!

After the break, Manchester City dominated the game and tried their hardest to get back into the game. But it just wasn’t to be. And to make matters worse, City’s star player Kevin De Bruyne had to leave the game due to a neck and eye injury after a collision with Antonio Rudiger. Chelsea had their own injury problem in the first half after Thiago Silva had to exit the game but Andreas Christensen was a great replacement for the veteran center-back. But City just didn’t recover after De Bruyne’s exit.

The game ended with City having just one 1 shot on target from 7 total attempts. Chelsea didn’t do much better with 2 shots on target off 8 attempts but of course, they scored that one goal which proved to be the difference maker. Kai Havertz’s goal sealed Chelsea’s victory and Chelsea are kings of Europe once again.
